Leave of Absence and Withdrawal


  • Under what circumstances can a student take an academic leave of absence?


    All students are allowed to take up to two semesters of academic leave during their studies. The request for leave must be submitted before the add/drop period. If the request is made after this period, it must be reviewed and approved by the Educational Council.​​​​​​​

     

  • Does academic leave count towards the allowable duration of study?


    Yes, only one semester of academic leave for female students due to childbirth does not count towards their duration of study.​​​​​​​

     

  • Under what circumstances is a student considered to have withdrawn from their studies?

    Withdrawal from studies without obtaining permission from the university is considered as voluntary withdrawal, and a student who has withdrawn from their studies is not entitled to continue their education.
  • What should a student do if they decide to withdraw from their studies?


    The student must submit their withdrawal request in person to the university's education department. They may retract their withdrawal request only once within one month from the date of submission. After this period has elapsed, the withdrawal decision is final, and the student will not have the right to return to their studies.​​​​​​​

     

  • How can a student who has withdrawn from their studies resume their education?

    To resume their studies, a student who has withdrawn must pass the national entrance exam according to the relevant regulations.

Course Credits and Duration


  • What is the maximum number of credits a student can enroll in during one semester?


    During one semester, a student can enroll in a maximum of 20 credits. If on academic probation, the maximum allowed is 14 credits. If the student's overall GPA is above 17, they may enroll in up to 24 credits.​​​​​​​

     

  • What is the minimum number of credits a student can take during a semester?


    The minimum number of credits is 12; however, for students who are martyrs' children or veterans, the minimum is 10 credits.​​​​​​​

     

  • What are the conditions of taking the remaining lessons as a single lesson?

    If a student can graduate by passing only one theoretical course in which they have previously failed, once all their grades have been finalized, their request to retake the exam for that course will be approved.
  • What is the maximum number of credits that can be taken during the summer semester?


    The maximum is 6 credits. Alternatively, it is possible to take an internship simultaneously with either two practical course credits or three theoretical course credits.​​​​​​​

     

  • What is the maximum number of semesters allowed for?


    The maximum allowable duration is determined based on the year of entry.
    • ​​​​​​​If a student fails to complete the required courses within the maximum allowed period, they will be expelled from the university.
    • For students who entered in 2010 or earlier: 6 years or 12 semesters.
    • For students who entered in 2011 or 2012: 5 years or 10 semesters. The decision regarding students who entered in 2014 and later will be made accordingly.

Transfer


  • Is it possible to transfer from one university to another within the country and vice versa?


    Students who wish to transfer to other universities or vice versa should submit their request in the middle of each semester and proceed if they meet the necessary conditions.​​​​​​​

     

  • Is it possible to transfer from Sharif University to other universities in Tehran?


    Answer: NO​​​​​​​

     

  • Which grades are accepted for transferring students?

    For transfers, only the courses completed by the student with grades of 12.00 (60%) or higher are accepted (subject to the approval of the faculty or university). These will be recorded as CR (Credit) on the transcript.
  • How many times can the transfer policy be used during the course of study?


    A student is allowed to transfer only once during their entire course of study at each academic level.​​​​​​​

     


Graduation


  • What documents are required for graduation procedures?

    • Confirmation of pre-university education in the student’s file.
    • Receipt of course credit validation from the relevant faculty or department.
    • Settlement of all items listed in the clearance system.
    • Submission of the original student ID card.
    • A copy of the birth certificate and national ID card.
    • The original debt clearance statement and a copy of it.
    • Two passport-sized photos.
  • How many credits must be completed during the course of study?


    The student must complete 140 credits by the end of their bachelor's degree program.​​​​​​

  • What is the maximum number of credits that can be taken beyond the required 140 credits?

    Up to 7 credits beyond the required 140 credits are allowed (provided that the additional credits do not extend the duration of study). If more than 7 extra credits are taken, the student is required to pay the tuition for those additional credits.

  • When is the provided the time and what are the required documents for visiting to complete the graduation procedures?

    Once all your grades are entered and your course credits are completed, obtain your transcript from the Registrar's Office and the credit matching booklet, and review the Graduation Eligibility Form. You can find these in the forms section at http://civil.sharif.ir. After reviewing the graduation process, proceed with the necessary steps for graduation.
  • How is the graduation date determined?

    The graduation date is set as February 19th for the first semester and July 21st for the second semester.
  • What is the overall GPA of a student at the end of their undergraduate program?

    The overall GPA at the end of the undergraduate program must be at least 12.00 (60%).

Important Considerations for Currently Enrolled Students


  • Are official and unofficial transcripts in Latin script issued for students currently enrolled, for submission to universities abroad?


    Yes, official and unofficial transcripts in Latin script can be issued for currently enrolled students upon payment of the transcript fee and presentation of the original receipt.​​​​​​​

     

  • Under what circumstances can a request for medical withdrawal be made?


    If a student misses an exam, they must submit medical documentation to the clinic on the same day to apply for a medical withdrawal.​​​​​​​

     

  • What should be done if a student ID card is lost or becomes unusable in order to obtain a replacement card?

    To obtain a replacement card, visit the university's admissions office and pay the required fee.
